"Once Upon a Time" New Beginnings 2010

This year the General Young Women's Presidency under the direction of the first Presidency made some changes to the Young Women Personal Progress Program. We decided to make that the main focus of our New Beginnings program to get the girls off to a great start this year.
Our Theme was " Once Upon a Time" and we decorated in pink with polka dots. The girls did a skit that introduced the 8 values and it of course started with "Once Upon a Time" We had a brunch and invited the Mom's. They were also invited to earn the YW's Personal Progress Medallion along with their daughters.

Thursday Update (Last one for February)

I have been working on the last items needed for our New Beginnings this Sat. Here is a link to the Class symbols and Motto's I printed and then outline colored. You are welcome to use them.
Finished all the flowers and they are all ready to be pinned on the cute bags we are giving to the girls at New Beginnings!
This is my next project. I purchased this fabric about 5 years ago to make a baby blanket. I got it out a few weeks ago and then ordered the white Ric Rac here. I found some matching Lion Brand Baby Soft in my yarn stash and think it will go great! Come back next week to see how it turns out!

Dancing Niece's!

While in Utah three of our Nieces had a dance competition. We enjoyed watching them perform and tried to get a few pictures from the bleachers. The competition was held at UVU and they dance with the Vibe Studio.

Winter Wonderland for today!

So Darren pulled in around 12:45 PM safe and sound. Yes I was still awake. He left to drop a few of the boy's off so the parents did not have to drive in the snow. The electricity went off for the second time and I was not sure if he would be able to get back in. Turns out he left the garage door opened but that meant he had to unhook it from the opener to close it. So around 1:30AM he came upstairs and fell into bed. I woke up this morning around 5:30 and realized that sometime during the night the electricity had gone back on, I turned off a light or two we forgot about and stopped the alarm time from blinking. I looked out the window and could see that everything was blanketed in snow!!! It was cold and so I got right back under my warm blankets until 7:30 when Ben and Jacquie showed up at our door:) We watched Rusty and Kirra slide down the front stairs as they attempted to go explore the white wonderland. I threw a few snow balls at Ben and Darren after Jacquie left for work. We then made a huge snowman snowbear, my camera battery died so I will have to get a picture from Ben.
Here are a few more pictures of our southern style Winter Wonderland.

Jacquie on her way to work.
Fresh snow
Can you find Rusty in the snow covered woods? Rusty and Kirra checking out the snow!
Our home covered in snow, the palms don't look very tropical with snow weighing them down.

Thanks for looking at all my pictures. Maybe in another 20 years I will have a new snow post to share.

Snow in Summerville!

I realize that for those that live in the Mountain West or North East this may seem silly. When we moved here 4 years ago we were told that it snows here about every 15 years. I found that hard to believe the first winter we had here. We wore flip flops all winter long and never put on a coat!!! Well last winter I think I saw one flurry. People thought it had snowed when it was cold enough for frost to accumulate on the roofs.
But this is the most snow I have ever seen in Summerville!!
These are the big heavy wet type snow flakes, they are sticking to the stairs and rails.
Just a coincidence that Darren took a van load of Y.M. to North Carolina to ski today.
I sure hope our tropical palms make it thru this crazy winter weather!

Thursday Update

Just a few projects finished and one a little bit of progress to report.
First project~My square for February an hourglass pattern using my new 1/4 inch foot.
Let me just say what a huge difference a quarter inch foot makes!!!!!!
My second project~ A pair of Pink P.J's using this very soft tiny ribbed knit material I picked up at Hancock's on their sale rack for 1.97 a yard.
The Pattern was McCall's Easy Stitch 'N Save #M5960
The Ribbon Black Satin by Offray. The thread Sulky 932.
My Janome hated both the thread and the fabric and that made this a difficult project even though the pattern is a piece of cake! I ended up finishing up on my Elna.  All in all I really like the end result.

Lastly, I finished all the petals for the New Beginning Flowers.
Here is the first of 20 finished, only 19 more to go before the 27th. Piece of cake right!
The tutorials  where I learned how to make these flowers can be found here and here.
Happy Valentines day to you all!
