Thursday Update

As you may already know I have been working on this black and white quilt.
I had an idea about how to quilt it but was not sure if it was the right thing to do. A few of you left me some ideas last week. And while I was reading one of my favorite blogs I posted a question, here. So I was so glad that I had gone ahead with both Machine and hand stitching. I like the speed of the Machine quilting but the artistic side of the hand stitching.

I finished sewing the binding in place, but realized that 1/4 inch seam was not enough so I need to go back and sew a 3/8 inch seam before I can turn it and do the hand stitching.

Evening in Mt Pleasant!

Tonight for our Young Women activity the girls wanted to go walk to the top of the bridge. It is Spring Break here so we thought that would be great! They also wanted to eat at Jack's Cosmic Dog.

Spring has sprung around here!

That means time to trim and mulch so we can plant!

These guys are enjoying the sunshine too!

Fresh new leaves are appearing on trees every where.
Momma birds are keeping their hatchlings warm and protected.
Families are playing outside more!

 Easter dinner enjoyed by all!
Prepared by Darren
Day three the Momma left long enough for me to snap a picture.

Thursday Update (All fool's Day)

A beautiful first day of April here in Summerville. Although the ground is covered in Yellow pollen and if you open your windows it will be all over your floor and furniture! I made that mistake yesterday! My arms are sticking to my desk even though I wiped it off this morning. Oh well I still love spring anyway!
I worked on 2 projects this past week. The first an attempt at sewing a matching wallet to go with the new purse.
The Pattern is Wonder Wallet by Lazy Girl.
I took these pictures at night and the flash washed the polka dots out!

I had been collecting black and white fat quarters and yardage for a black and white quilt. I decided that it might be to big of a project and went with a Pattern I found on sale online at the Fat Quarter Shop. It is Little Scraps from This and That ~Simplicity~ #125

The cutting went very quick!

The polka dot will be the backing.

The center went together very quick!

Finished top, now if I could just decide how to quilt it. I am thinking of hand stitching using a heavy thread such as DMC floss. Black on white and white on black. Or maybe I should just stitch in the ditch so as to not bother the design. Let me know what you think and have a wonderful easter weekend with your loved ones!

Thursday Update (Last one for March)

I decided it was about time I got to sewing a new bag before another year rolled around! I purchased some Amy Butler fabric about a year ago on sale and have been saving it for this project. I also found some Kaffe Fassett Polka Dots and Bamboo handles about 3 months ago that I thought might be fun to incorporate into this bag. I of course used my favorite pattern by Beki Lambert the "Short And Sassy".
The handles look uneven, that is an illusion or poor photography on my part.

I am currently working on a wallet to match. I will post more about it when it is finished.
Enjoy this last week of March and the beautiful spring sunshine!

Stake Sports Day

A beautiful day for the Youth Sports Day!  Held at a park on the Navel Weapons Station. While there a Navy couple exchanged vows and we became the reception.
Oakbrook girls are ready to get there game on!
Brother Powell is always there when you need him, he is not always in the sun though!

Cute Navy couple who got married on the dock in the first picture while the kids were eating their lunch. Brother Powell made sure they all got some lunch too!
The weather was so nice that after I got home I let Kirra and Rusty out to play while I looked for some more signs of spring.
Here is what we found.
Berries
White weed flowers

A very over grown Loropetalum
Happy Spring everyone!

Thursday Update

Spring is really here and the Bradford Pears are all in bloom! This was taken a few days ago on my iPhone while stopped at a red light. They are now just bursting with White Blossoms. I don't own one so no close up pictures.
Here is my first try at a Pinwheel block. I made this to go in my frame for the Month of March.

This bottle cozy started out as a hat, I was crocheting to tight so I decided to just keep using a single crochet stitch and turn it into a glass or bottle cozy. These are nice to use when you have a cold soda or water bottle so they don't leave a wet mess on your desk.
This is my first attempt at Free Motion Quilting. It was all right but I am going to practice on a lot more scraps before attempting anything quilted.
This is a Pinwheel placemat I think it turned out better then the first attempt.

And the back, fabric is from Walmart in case you were wondering.
This came in the mail from  the Fabric Shack they are located in Ohio. They have a super sale selection of Moda fabrics and my order came very quick;)
This is going to be in my April block!
