Hat Four with Shawl

I wanted to make this shawl that matches the Green hat with flowers. Making the flowers was easy! Putting them together was a bit time consuming so I do not think I will do that again. It is a small shawl but cute:)The patterns for all three can be found here.
I only used 4 colors the pattern asked for 6.
Laying the flowers out before sewing together.

Hat Four

This one fits!!! I am not so sure I like the color though, I think I need a brighter color what do you think? I added the rose colored flower to spice it up. Maybe I should have left it off.

Valentines Flowers

We stayed home this year and had a fun family dinner. French dips and potato salad with heart shaped chocolate cupcakes frosted and decorated. We all got a card. The table was decorated with balloons and Darren brought me a dozen red roses. I forgot to take pictures so you will just have to use your imagination on this one:) Happy Valentines everyone!!!!!

Time to learn or re-learn something new!

So as you can see from my last post I have been admiring those cute Crochet hats. Really I have been admiring a lot of handmade things, I guess maybe it is because we had about 2 weeks with lower than normal temps and we were having to wear outer wear to keep warm. That is very unusual here in Summerville. I am happy to say that it is very nice today:)

I learned how to Crochet in grade school, but only a few stitches, so I began to search the web for some guidance (lessons). There are a lot of pages out there!!! Here is one that I found with a lot of helps. I purchased a few hooks, they are not to expensive(2-3$) at Walmart or Hancocks. I already had yarn so I was ready to go.

Here are a few flowers I have learned to make from patterns on the web.

The patterns can be found here and here.

Make sure that if you have not crocheted before or in a long time, that you have more then an hour to spend on learning and experimenting on your project. Most of all enjoy the creative process!!!

New Beginnings 2009

Tonight was our Annual Young Women's "New Beginnings" Program. This year it was centered around the 2009 Mutual Theme and Becoming a "Beehive". We sang the song "Be Thou an Example" by Hillary Abplanalp. One of our talented Laurel's played the cello, it was so pritty.

Groundhog Day!

Photo's from the AP
Every year in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania the length of WINTER is determined by a Ground-Hog named Punxsutawney Phil.

This year Phil saw his shadow and therefore we will be having 6 more weeks of WINTER!

We have decided to have Dinner and a Movie to celebrate this fine winter occasion.

We think we might like to do this everyonce in a while for FHE.

Here is what the weather is like in Summerville today!

Another one!

We just had another very small earthquake! That is more in this month then in years here! What is going on I thought by leaving the west we were getting away from all that mess! I will update as soon as we know more about it, maybe we (Darren, Ben & Nick) are feeling things but I do not think so!

We were right it was a small earthquake at 4:11pm eastern time 16.2 miles SE of us 3.1 miles below the earths surface. It was rated at a 2.5m. I am not sure many even felt it! I am just ultra sensitive, not so much that I can predict them though:)

Game Nights!

This has been happening almost every night at our house since Ben and Jacquie came back from Oregon. It is not alway Catan, sometimes it's yahtzee or Hearts, but mostly Catan.
Setting up the gameboard. In this game the board changes each game that you play.

The thief in the desert.

On your turn you must roll the dice and collect your cards, buy or trade.

This is the white players building cost card. You can build roads, settlements and city's. You can also buy development cards.

You may not want to hang on to more then 7 cards at a time or the thief may steal half of them.

Looks like a good collection, where are your sheep?

Resolutions Update

So it has been 15 days and I have been able to make our bed everyday so far! I am doing well on all except one! The one I thought would be easiest. After some thought and discussion with Darren I am scratching #9 off the list. No one wants to get up for big Breakfast. I finished 5 scrapbook pages and I hope to get many more finished. I hope to get hooked up with a good dentist next week!

Wanted

We had a great Mutual opening 2009 Theme night tonight. The kid's ate Bean's & dog's with chips and Rootbeer. The Young Women brought cookies. We had Bro. Van Pinx. talk about the new theme found here. They then learned how to line dance from the Acree's. I think everyone had a great time!

New Years Resolutions

I have made 9 resolutions for myself for this year 2009. I am blogging them just in case I forget what they are, my memory is not what it used to be. Darren will be the first to tell you that. So here they are.

1. Pray daily
2. Read the Book of Mormon at least 5 min. each day
3. Smile everyday

Those were a challenge given to the youth and their leaders by the General Young Women and Young Men presidents. See A Brand New Year video in side bar.

4. Make bed everyday
5. Plan and prepare more healthy meals
6. Scrapbook more often so I can get some of the boxes out of my closet!
7. Go to the dentist (this will be my hardest one)
8. Be more in tune to the promptings of the spirit.
9. Last and most fun Make big breakfasts with my family on Sunday mornings. (We are the late block)

Here are a few pictures from around our home this year as we have been doing some clean up and rearranging.

We wish you the very best during 2009!
