Completed Projects this week!

I forgot to make something Green, happy St. Patricks Day anyway!
This week went by so fast, I only completed a few projects. Not all are Crocheted:) I will include links to patterns and supplies if I can. Enjoy;)

This small cap kind of evolved so I do not have a pattern to share. I used Homespun Yarn by Lion Brand. I made this beanie using a free Red heart project sheet I found at Walmart and Black No Dye Lot worsted Yarn from Red Heart. Nick is Modeling it, but I made it for Darren to wear while working in TN.

This was an experiment to see if Stampin' Up's "Decor Elements" could be applied to a painted canvas. It worked out wonderfully.

Both of these patterns came from SLK Designs they were very easy to follow and turned out very similar to her picture. I did use Red Heart Baby, sport weight yarn and so they are a bit bigger then the newborn to 3 month size. I would guess they are more like 3-6month, I have not been around a small baby for a while so that is a guestimate:) I also added the tie to the hat so that it would match the booties. These did not take more then a few hours.

March Madness

The Mia Maids planned a March Madness Basketball play off for this weeks Combined Activity. The youth really seemed to enjoy playing. Nick started out as a referree and ended up playing. He never wears shoes while playing basketball, I do not know how he keeps his toes from getting smashed.

Late Winter at the beach!

We had a free afternoon so we decided to play a quik game of Tennis, Nick won. Then off to the beach. It was a bit cloudy and windy but getting warmer. Nick and Jacquie checked the water temp and yep it is still to cold for South Carolinian's to get in without a wetsuit. Some crazy Northerners were in their bathing suits!!!!

Latest Crochet Projects

Here are the projects that I have finished over the last week. I think that I will do an update each Tuesday from now on. That way I do not bore those who are not interested in the craft.First Hot Pad made with Coffee color Lion Brand Suede Yarn. I liked working with this Navy blue yarn and decided I needed to make another hat with it. I do not know what brand it is because I have had it for awhile and it was missing it's label. It was my first attempt at a scalloped edge. It is a preteen size hat.

This is my first attempt at making a Amigurumi critter, it has some crazy hair!!!!

Sorry about the blurry photo:(

YW Pedicure night

The Bee's and Maid's did pedicures while the Laurel's went Ice Skating. We had a blast getting to know the girls and they each other while we stunk up the YW room with Nail Polish.

My first handbag:)

I made a square thinking it would become a hot-pad. I decided yellow and white were not the color for a hot pad so it became a purse:) It is the right size for a young girl. I would like to make a hot-pad just in a different color.

Hat Four with Shawl

I wanted to make this shawl that matches the Green hat with flowers. Making the flowers was easy! Putting them together was a bit time consuming so I do not think I will do that again. It is a small shawl but cute:)The patterns for all three can be found here.
I only used 4 colors the pattern asked for 6.
Laying the flowers out before sewing together.

Hat Four

This one fits!!! I am not so sure I like the color though, I think I need a brighter color what do you think? I added the rose colored flower to spice it up. Maybe I should have left it off.

Valentines Flowers

We stayed home this year and had a fun family dinner. French dips and potato salad with heart shaped chocolate cupcakes frosted and decorated. We all got a card. The table was decorated with balloons and Darren brought me a dozen red roses. I forgot to take pictures so you will just have to use your imagination on this one:) Happy Valentines everyone!!!!!

Time to learn or re-learn something new!

So as you can see from my last post I have been admiring those cute Crochet hats. Really I have been admiring a lot of handmade things, I guess maybe it is because we had about 2 weeks with lower than normal temps and we were having to wear outer wear to keep warm. That is very unusual here in Summerville. I am happy to say that it is very nice today:)

I learned how to Crochet in grade school, but only a few stitches, so I began to search the web for some guidance (lessons). There are a lot of pages out there!!! Here is one that I found with a lot of helps. I purchased a few hooks, they are not to expensive(2-3$) at Walmart or Hancocks. I already had yarn so I was ready to go.

Here are a few flowers I have learned to make from patterns on the web.

The patterns can be found here and here.

Make sure that if you have not crocheted before or in a long time, that you have more then an hour to spend on learning and experimenting on your project. Most of all enjoy the creative process!!!

New Beginnings 2009

Tonight was our Annual Young Women's "New Beginnings" Program. This year it was centered around the 2009 Mutual Theme and Becoming a "Beehive". We sang the song "Be Thou an Example" by Hillary Abplanalp. One of our talented Laurel's played the cello, it was so pritty.

Groundhog Day!

Photo's from the AP
Every year in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania the length of WINTER is determined by a Ground-Hog named Punxsutawney Phil.

This year Phil saw his shadow and therefore we will be having 6 more weeks of WINTER!

We have decided to have Dinner and a Movie to celebrate this fine winter occasion.

We think we might like to do this everyonce in a while for FHE.

Here is what the weather is like in Summerville today!

Sixty five with showers!
